DIAMOND CLARITY

Natural diamonds are the result of carbon exposed to tremendous heat and pressure deep in the earth. This process can result in a variety of internal characteristics called ‘inclusions’ and external characteristics called ‘blemishes.’

Evaluating diamond clarity involves determining the number, size, relief, nature, and position of these characteristics, as well as how these affect the overall appearance of the stone. While no diamond is perfectly pure, the closer it comes, the higher its value.

The level of cleanliness that is most cost effective for the customer in terms of quality and price of the diamond is: SI-1 The price will be significantly lower and visually the diamond will be perfect for an human  eye.

This is the most common quality among jewelers, since the purchase price is low and the jewelry can be sold to the customer at an attractive price.

CLARITY - Clear. A completely clear diamond with no external or internal defect.

FL - flawless. A diamond that has no defect (external or internal) that can be seen in magnification up to 10 times or more.

IF - a diamond with no internal defect at all, but with an external defect that is difficult to see below 10 times larger

VVS1 - very very small flaws. A diamond with imperfections that are very hard to see at 10 times magnification

VVS2 - very very small flaws. A diamond with imperfections that is hard to see at 10 times magnification.

VS1 - Very small flaws. A diamond with many flaws that are difficult to see at 10 times magnification.

VS2 - very small flaws. A diamond with a lot of flaws that are difficult to see at 10 times magnification.

SI1 - visible defects. A diamond with a lot of flaws that are also visible in the naked eye.

SI2 - visible defects. A diamond with a lot of flaws that are also visible in an unarmed eye.

I1 - damaged. A diamond with visible defects.

I2 - Very flawed.  diamond with a lots of visible defects.

I3 - very corrupted. The lowest level. A lot of flaws are obvious.
